Identification of Action Words
Action words, often known as action verbs, are words that express an action. They show the action being done.
Examples:
Jump, crawl, eat, drink, go, stop, run, walk, sleep, wash, open, close, push, pull, play, hug, tickle, dance, shake, sit, stand, toss, catch, and come etc.
Observe the images of different actions and read aloud.
Identify different actions in the images.
Let’s take a look at some of the animals’ actions.
Animals are performing various actions in this scene.
How do you recognize action words?
It is the act of doing something, usually in order to achieve a goal.
Let’s look at a small story of little Alice
Alice met a cat on Monday morning. “I can run,” the cat declared. “Can you get away?” “I, too, can run!” Alice exclaimed.
“I can jump,” claimed the frog when Alice saw him on Tuesday. Do you have the ability to leap? I can jump, too, Alice declared.
Alice saw a bird on Wednesday. “I’m a singer,” the bird declared. “Do you have any musical abilities?” “I can sing, too!” Alice declared.
Alice met a fish on Thursday. “I’m a swimmer,” the fish declared. “Do you have any swim capabilities?” “I can swim too!” Alice exclaimed.
On Friday, Alice caught up with a buddy. “I can skip,” said the friend. I’m a dancer. I can hop. I can spin. “Do you want to play with me?” “Yes, I can!” Alice replied. “I’d be delighted to play with you.”

Let’s go over the story again, this time with some QUESTIONS.

Answer: Run

Answer: Swim

Answer: Friend
6. On the basis of the story, what can a buddy do? She can…..
Answer: She can skip, dance, hop and twirl.
Let’s study some sentences taken from the story.
- Alice sings on Wednesday.
- The frog jumps on Tuesday.
- Alice and the friend skips, dance, and hope on Friday.
- What do we call the words that tell us about the activity or state of something or someone?
Answer: We call them action words or verbs.
- Words that describe the action that we do are known as action words or verbs.
- They tell what something or someone does.
