Paraphrasing 

  1. What is paraphrasing?
    • To paraphrase is to say something in a different way, using your own words.  
    • Paraphrasing is the process of borrowing ideas, language, or phrases from another person’s writing, and rewriting them using our own language and sentence patterns.

  1. Understand the techniques of paraphrasing?
    • Change from a Clause to a Phase (or vice versa) 
    • Change from Quoted Speech to Indirect Speech (or vice versa) 
    • Change from Active Voice to Passive Voice (or vice versa) 
    • Change to Synonyms 
    • Change Word Forms 

Steps to Paraphrasing sentence: 

  • Read the original text until you understand its meaning well; then set it aside. 
  • Use your memory to write down the main points or concepts. 
  • Rewrite the text by varying the opening, changing the order of sentences, lengthening or shortening sentences, etc.
