What is a Preposition?  

  • The words that show the relationship between Noun or apronoun and some other word element in the rest of the sentence. 

Prepositions tell us the position of Noun.  

Example 

( on, in, under, behind out) 

  1. Pencil box is on the table.  
  2. The book is in the bag. 
  3. The mall is behind the Hospital. 
  4. The mice is under the table. 

Preposition is telling the position of the Noun. 

There are three kinds of prepositions 

parallel
  1. Prepositions of Time: in, on at etc.
  2. Preposition of Movement & Direction: in, on at, etc.
  3. Preposition of Position: on, in, under etc.

Prepositions of Time

Usage of “at” for the exact time on the clock. 

For example: The Flight to Canada is due at 10 p.m. 

We use on for days and dates. 

For example: My Mom is coming on Monday. We’re having a party on the  

Saturday . 

parallel

We use In for Non specific times during a day, a month, a season, or a year.  

When we don’t know the exact time. 

For example: Monty likes to walk in the morning.  

It is too hot in Summer.  

Prepositions of Movement & Direction

To , from and into.  

For example: To attempt an interview we go to Canada.  

From…….to is used to refer to the beginning and end of an activity or event. 

For example: The weather was windy from Monday to Wednesday.  

Into is used to enter a building/ a room. 

For example : 

  • Miss Douglas entered into the House.
