Combine Sentences
Sentence combining is the process of integrating two or more shorter sentences into one smoother, more complete sentence.
Combining sentences allows us to highlight the connections between ideas.
Different ways to combine sentences:
- Combining with keywords.
- Combined with a series of words/phrases.
- Combined with longer sentences.
Sentences can be combined by moving a keyword from one sentence to the other.
Use an adjective
EXAMPLE :
Short sentences
The women always have to wait in line.
The line is long.
When combined with an adjective :
The women always have to wait in a long line.
Use an adverb
EXAMPLE :
Short sentences :
You are supposed to wait with them.
You are supposed to sit quietly.
Combined with an adverb :
You are supposed to sit quietly with them.
Combined with a prepositional phrase
EXAMPLE :
Short sentences :
He signed his name.
He signed it on a football.
Combined with a prepositional phrase :
He signed his name on a football.
Use compound verb
EXAMPLE :
Short sentences
Janet dived into the pond.
She made a perfect figure eight.
When combined with a compound verb :
Janet dived into the pond and made a perfect figure eight.
