Read the words and mark the difference in pronunciation. 

  • Boy

When “Y” is present at the end of a word with one syllable, it makes long “I” sound. 

Examples: Fly, Dry, Sky

When “Y” comes at the end of a word with more than two syllables, it makes long “e” sound. 

Examples: Baby, Puppy, Pony, Happy, Candy, Sorry, City, etc.

When “Y” is at the start or middle of a word, it makes a short “Y” sound.
