- Addends and sums.
- Use the addition fact patterns to find the sum.
Introduction
Addends
Addends are any of the numbers that are added together. For example: In the addition equation 8 + 3 = 11, the 8 and the 3 are addends.
Addition:

Example 1:
Find the addends and sum for the equation given below.
3 + 4 = 7
Solution:
3 and 4 are addends.
7 is the sum.

Example 2:
Find the addends and sum for the equation given below.
9 + 5 = 14
Solution:
9 and 5 are addends.
14 is the sum.

Use the addition fact patterns to find the sum
Example 3:
Find all the ways to make a sum of 5. Identify the pattern it makes.

Example 4:
Find all the ways to make a sum of 9. Identify the pattern it makes.

Example 5:
Use fact patterns and complete the equation.
10 + ____ = 16
9 + 7 = ____
____ + 8 = 16
7 + ____ = 16
6 + ____ = 16

A line is a straight, one-dimensional figure that extends endlessly in both directions in geometry. It has no starting and ending points. When we define a starting point but not an ending point of a line, it is called a ray. Another important term associated with the line is a line segment. Line Segment Definition […]
