a. Addition of numbers
Example: Mother gave 4 chocolates to Alex.

Later, grandfather gave 5 chocolates to Alex. How many chocolates does he have in total?

So, Alex has 4 chocolates given by mother along with the 5 chocolates given by grandfather.

So, he has 9 chocolates.
b. Addition of same type of items
Q: A hen has 3 chicks. 4 other chicks join the family. What is the total number of chicks at present?

Total number of birds = When 4 chicks add to 3 chicks [Add only the number of chicks]

Exercise
1. There are 2 cars parked.

4 more cars join.

Find the total number of cars in the parking area.
2. There are 3 bees.

Five more bees join.

How many bees are there now?

3. How many frogs are there now?

4. If three roses and 5 lilies are cut from a garden. How many flowers are cut in total?
