Key Concepts

  • Draw bar graphs and solve problems by using bar graphs

Introduction

A bar graph is a graph that shows complete data with rectangular bars.

We can represent bar graphs in two parts.

  1. Vertical bar graph
  2. Horizontal bar graph
Vertical bar graph and Horizontal bar graph

We can use a table to make a bar graph.

Consider the given table.

fav activities

First, we have to write a title and then label the graph.

parallel

Here, the title is Favorite Activities, and the labels are ‘Activity’ and the ‘Number of Students.’

Favorite Activities,

Then color the boxes for each activity to match the data.

The length of the bar represents the number of students who like each activity.

 length of the bar

Example:

Draw the bar graph for the table given below.

parallel
Draw the bar graph

Solution:

By using the table, the required bar graph is given below.

Example:

Observe the bar graph and prepare the required table.

Solution:

Observe the bar graph, and the required table is given below.

Observe the bar graph

Example:

From the given bar graph, write the number of balls used in tennis.

number of balls used in tennis.

Solution:

From the above bar graph, we can tell those 7 balls are used in tennis.
