Multiples
A multiple is the product of a given factor and a whole number.
For example, if we say 4 × 5 = 20, here 20 is a multiple of 4 and 5.
The other multiple of 4 can be listed as 4 (4 ×1 = 4),
8 (4 × 2 = 8),
12 (4 × 3 = 12), and so on.

Multiple of a number = Number × Any integer (not a fraction)
Multiple
A multiple is the product of a given factor and a whole number.
Example1:
Henry and his three friends William, James, and John decided to pluck flowers from the garden in the order of the first four multiples of 7. Can you list the number of flowers that each of them plucked, of the first four multiples of 7 (excluding zero)?

Solution:
Step1:
The first four multiple of 7 are

Multiples of 7 by skip counting:

Step2:

Ria plucked 7 flowers.
1 x 7 = 7
7 is a multiple of 1 and 7 because 1 x 7 = 7.

Step3:
Joe plucked 14 flowers.
2 x 7 =14.

Step4:
Sam plucked 21 flowers.
3 x 7 = 21

Step5:
Tom plucked 28 flowers.
4 x 7 =28
Example2:
Find first 5 multiples of 10.

Solution:
First multiple
1 x 10 = 10
10 is a multiple of 1 and 10 because 1 x 10 = 10.
Second multiple
2 x 10 = 20
20 is a multiple of 2 and 10 because 2 x 10 = 20.
Third multiple
3 x 10 = 30
30 is a multiple of 3 and 10 because 3 x 10 = 30.
Fourth multiple
4 x 10 = 40
40 is a multiple of 4 and 10 because 4 x 10 = 40.
Fifth multiple
5 x 10 = 50
50 is a multiple of 5 and 10 because 5 x 10 = 50.

Example3:
The teacher asked Chercy to water the pots which were marked in the order of the multiple of 9. She missed some pots. Can you help her identify the pots that she missed in the following list: 9, 18, __, 36, __, 54?

Solution:
Let us start counting the multiplication table of 9:
Multiples of 9 by skip counting:

∴ The missed pots are 27 and 45.
Exercise:
- Write 10 multiples of each number.
- 2
- 7
- 10
- Tell the first number is a multiple of a second number.
- 16, 4
- 20, 2
- 32, 8
- Write 5 multiples of each number.
- 3
- 4
- 5
- Name all the numbers of which 20 is a multiple.
- Is 37 a multiple of 4?
- Circle the multiple of 5.

- Latina says all numbers that are multiples of 8 have 2 as a factor. Is Latina correct? Explain.
- John bought bags of fruits. There are 7 balls in each bag. Could John have 77 fruits? Explain.
- Fill in the blanks:
- 3 x 8 = 24, so, 24 is the multiple of ………… and ………….
- 11 x 9 = 99, so, ………… is the multiple of 11 and 9.
- 2 x 4 x 6 = 48, so, 48 is the multiple of …………, 4 and ………….
- Check if:
- 18 is a multiple of 6
- 25 is a multiple of 5
- 18 a multiple of 2

What is an Obtuse Angle? In geometry, an angle that is greater than 90 degrees but lesser than 180 degrees is called an obtuse angle. We can easily recognize an obtuse angle because it extends past a right angle. Obtuse angle explained in detail with examples but first learn about angles. Type of Angles Geometry […]

A line is a straight, one-dimensional figure that extends endlessly in both directions in geometry. It has no starting and ending points. When we define a starting point but not an ending point of a line, it is called a ray. Another important term associated with the line is a line segment. Line Segment Definition […]
