It is a set of four related multiplication and division facts that use the same three numbers.
For example: The fact family for 2, 6 and 12 is a set of four multiplication and division facts.
Two are multiplication facts, whereas the other two are division facts.
Multiplication facts: 2 x 6 = 12; 6 x 2 =12

Division facts: 12 ÷ 2 = 6; 12 ÷ 6 =2

4.7.1 Multiplication facts
Example1:
Lenin arranged 25 pomegranates into 5 rows. How many pomegranates are there in each row?

Solution:
What times 5 equals 25?
? x 5 =25

Example2:
32 books are arranged in rows with 8 books in each. How many rows are there?

Solution:
What times 8 equals 32?
? x 8 =32

4.7.2 Division facts
Example1:
Mercy has 36 leaf stickers to put into a photo album. If there are 6 stickers on a page, how many sticker pages will she use?

Solution:
Find out how many groups of 6 are in 36?
6 leaves in each page.
36 ÷ 6 = 6
There are 6 equal groups 6 in 36.
She uses 6 sticker pages.
Example2:
Martin has 8 gardens in his backyard. He bought 48 plants to share equally among each garden. How many plants are there in each garden?

Solution:
Find out how many groups of 8 are in 48
48 ÷ 8 = 6
There are 6 equal groups 8 in 48.
6 plants are there in each garden.
Example 3:
Grade 4 students are doing a math activity. The class has 20 students. There are 4 students in each group. How many groups are there in the class?

Solution:
Find out how many groups of 4 are in 20
4 members in one group.
20 ÷ 4 = 5
There are 5 equal groups 4 in 20.
5 groups are there in the class.
