Key Concepts
- Tell time to the hour.
- Tell time to the half hour.
Clock
- In a clock, the shorter hand is called the hour hand.
- The hour hand tells us what hour it is.

- The long hand is called the minute hand.
- The minute hand points to the minute.

A. Read time to the hour
- When the minutes hand points to 12, we say o’clock.
Example: The minutes hand is at 12 and the hours hand is at 3.

So, the time is 3 o’clock.
B. Digital clock
- We can show time using a digital clock also.

- The hours are written before the colon.
- The minutes are written after the colon.
C. Time to the half hour
- When the minute hand is on 6, we can say that 30 minutes or half past the hour.

- Half an hour is equal to 30 minutes.
Exercise
- Draw the hour and minute hands on the clock to show the time as 5 o’clock.

- What is the time shown by the clock?

- Draw the hands on the clock to represent the time shown on the digital clock.

- Fill the missing terms of the pattern:
3:00, 5:00, , 9:00, . - If the time is as shown, between which numbers does the hour hand lie?
